A long view of the Keffer Oak, the largest blazed tree on the AT. It's over 300 years old and about 18 ft 3 in in diameter! One of the very few old growth trees left on the east coast.

Back on the trail at VA 42 (Sinking Creek Valley). Note Ron's hiking poles resting
against the trail sign.

A mysterious rock pile along the trail. One of many. The mystery is that no one knows why, how or who piled them in such a way.

Ron posing with a chicken decoy someone perched on the top of a trail sign.

Sarver Hollow Shelter built in 2001. One of Ron's favorite shelters on the trail.

Remnants of the Sarver Family settlement from the 1800's.

Ron's first blister since starting the trail back in April. The worst was yet to come.

The beautiful view from Sinking Creek Mtn enroute to Niday Shelter.

Niday Shelter where Ron made the painful and difficult decision to come home.

Sign noting the Eastern Continental Divide. This is the northernmost spot on the A.T. where the route crosses a significant part of the divide.

"We cannot conquer fate and necessity, yet we can deal with them in such a manner as to be greater than if we could."
